The DuroVac is fabricated of 12 Ga. steel, and is designed to withstand 20" Hg. The competition’s units are fabricated of 14 Ga. and are designed to withstand 12" maximum, although in fairness, a centrifugal will not readily achieve 12" Hg. As a rule, the design criteria for the DuroVac is two fold: first, the system should be a joy to use -- hassle free filters, lots of power to achieve fast cleaning, and easy portability; and second, the system must have low, low service requirements. Let me explain this. My goal as designer was to achieve zero warranty claims. This makes good business sense, but many companies (and not just us vacuum people) don't recognize this. Since we offer a full one year parts and labor warranty (FOB jobsite!), I elected to spend a little more so that things don't break, or if they do, they're cheap, easy and fast to fix. People realize this and come back for more. It seems to work; fully 40% of sales are repeats! A Flexible Design We sell the DuroVac only as a portable; the units are fabricated on spec, kept as stock, then sold as is with just a few possible modifications. This allows us to keep the price way down. If a customer wants more flexibility, or options -- especially when talking about a central vac, then we offer a full blown central -- for more money. The competition makes their units to order, selling a central vac version and a portable version. The "portable only" DuroVac may be connected to a central pipe network without modification. When connected with a flexible hose, the DuroVac can be taken out and used in those places that require (or should require!) a once per year cleaning, Like cleaning the overheads in the warehouse to keep down the fire hazard. We call this a "semi-central". Forkliftable and Highly PortableThe DuroVac is fully portable. It is equipped with 5 inch 700# roller casters in back, and 8" 800# casters in front. The unit weighs 1360 lb. empty, yet is easily rolled over smooth floors. It does require a decent shove to get it started, though! There are forklift channels through the side of the DuroVac at the approximate center of gravity. They're standard. There is a overhead crane hook, standard. No other machine in this price range offers these standard features. Easy Service AccessThe service access door is fabricated of 10 Ga. and is large-sized so that a human can easily change out the filters. The competition’s are all ridiculously tiny! The hinge is a full length piano hinge, fully welded, and the adjustable draw clamps are heavy duty stainless. Vacuum Relief ValvesThere are two (2) vacuum relief valves on the DuroVac, one is redundant to ensure reliable operation. The valves open when the system is sealed, as would be found when the machine is attached to a central piping network with all the valves shut. Operation is mechanical and works automatically; a spring mechanism opens when the internal vacuum equals the spring's tension. They are fully adjustable and made of rust-proof brass.
