The Inline Filter

The major item that sets the DuroVac apart from the competition is our inline filter.  No one else offers this as standard (at least in this price range), and most don’t think to offer it even as an option.  

But this feature provides absolute protection against destroying the pump, and protects the operators from contaminants if the main filters fail.

The standard filter is a SOLBERG model 244P pleated paper cartridge with 35.5 sq. ft. of media. It has a published rating of 98% at 10 microns.   You’ll note that the efficiency of this filter is much lower than the efficiency of the main filter, but it’s main purpose is to provide protection in the event of a break, not to further clean the exhaust air.

We provide a DWYER #2020 0 - 20" S.P. differential pressure gauge to monitor the condition of the inline filter.  Normally, the gauge reads about 3" S.P. when working with a 50’ long 2" ID hose.  It reads about 5.5" WG with the door open (full air), and about 1" WG with the relief valve open. A broken bag will very quickly cause the magnehelic to indicate 12 - 17" SP (usually just a few hours).

The magnehelic is directly in front of the operator's nose when he starts the unit, and 12" SP is so abnormal that it is quickly apparent that something is wrong.

The inline housing has been made oversize to accommodate a simple upgrade to HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filtration.  For US$850.00 we install two (2) SOLBERG HEPA filter elements. HEPA filtration (or absolute filters) provide 99.97% efficiency at 0.3 microns. That’s effective enough to capture smoke!

The inline filter is a major reason for the reliability of this unit, and a major reason for its success as a design.
