OHS Canada features DuroVac CEO in combustible dust cover story

DuroVac CEO Anh-Tai Vuong is featured in the Fall 2026 cover story of OHS Canada, “Combustible dust hazards: Preventing catastrophic explosions in facilities.” The article, written by James Careless, looks at the health and safety risks created by industrial dust and the steps facilities can take to better control them.

Throughout the feature, Anh-Tai shares practical insight into how combustible dust hazards develop and why good housekeeping matters. Fine dust from materials such as wood, grain, flour and sugar can become combustible when dispersed in the air. When enough dust accumulates and an ignition source is introduced, the result can be a fast-moving and devastating chain of primary and secondary explosions.

One of the simplest principles is also one of the most important: pick up dust as close to where it is generated as possible. Source capture can help prevent material from becoming airborne or settling throughout a facility. For dust that does escape the process, heavy-duty industrial vacuum systems provide a way to recover accumulated material from floors and other areas of the plant.

The article also looks beyond cleanup. Anh-Tai discusses the importance of taking air samples where people are actually working, rather than relying on readings from the cleanest areas of a facility, and making air monitoring an ongoing, risk-based practice.

With regulatory changes coming into effect in 2027, the feature is a timely reminder that understanding the materials in your plant, where dust accumulates and how workers may be exposed is an important part of managing the risk. As Anh-Tai notes in the article, plant operators need to stay informed about the combustible and toxic dust hazards present in their operations.
